Hudsonville Community Fair is a staple in the community. Established in 1933, it is one of the oldest running fairs in Michigan and has grown to over 80,000 in annual attendance. It is one of the highlights of summer before going back to school every August.
However, this popular event had an outdated website. While it contained a lot of information, it was challenging to navigate and not optimized for mobile use. They needed a more current, mobile-friendly website that allowed them to promote the events of fair week and answer frequently-asked questions in an easily accessible way. They also host other activities throughout the year that bring in huge crowds, yet the site did not effectively differentiate between fair week and other events.
Specific Website Needs
- Overall modern, mobile-friendly website design
- Fast load times
- Great design that helps tell their story
- Content that clearly communicate the events and details people are looking for
- Highlight other uses of their facilities
We built a brand-new WordPress website for the fair and completely reorganized all the content. We built multiple calendars, so website traffic can be divided into fair week and the rest of the year’s events held on the fairgrounds.
We utilized the current logo and updated the color scheme to communicate the fun, friendly environment at the fair.
We paid close attention to making the site mobile-optimized and fast-loading to accommodate the over 70% of users searching from their phones or tablets. We also made pages easy to navigate to help visitors find the answers they seek.
The fair is the anchor event as kids go back to school in August, and the community loves it. We look forward to seeing how the new website keeps fairgoers informed and engaged while reducing office calls and Facebook messages during fair week—allowing planners to do what they do best: run the fair!
