Open Door Bakery

Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dégagé Ministries is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the community’s homeless population. One of their many services is the Open Door Bakery, which employs and empowers a team of passionate bakers whose lives have been transformed by the Open Door Women’s Center at Dégagé Ministries. One hundred percent of each purchase at the bakery offers hope and a warm place for women to stay in Dégagé’s overnight shelter.

Specific Website Needs

Open Door Bakery’s original website was a Wix e-commerce site they had built themselves. They wanted a new fully functioning e-commerce website, independent of the main Dégagé site, that also featured all the locations where their goods are sold. VanDenBerg Web + Creative built a new WordPress website complete with a custom map to highlight where customers can buy locally.

What we did

Along the way, we listened, coached, and made design and feature suggestions. For example, Open Door Bakery now offers bundles of favorites, such as Chocolate Lovers Variety Dozen, Traditional Variety Dozen, and Popular Variety Dozen. And one custom feature allows customers to order a build-your-own dozen box of cookies. Delicious!

Another tasty new feature is the customizable cookie cake option, where you can select color, customized message, and decoration. It is also now possible to add a gift message to your order, along with the ability to choose either pickup or delivery to a local address. The brilliant team at Open Door Bakery did a fantastic job at rebranding. Their excellent new packaging and outstanding photographs really helped elevate the website. It was a pleasure to work with Jenna on this fun project.
